Arizona grandmother accused of trying to drown grandson

FOX 10 PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- An Arizona grandmother is behind bars and accused of trying to drown her grandson not once, but twice.

She is now facing child abuse charges.

It took place in Glendale over the weekend.

54-year-old Leona Donna Mathtushquan was arrested Saturday after officers arrived at the family apartment Saturday.

The boy was found naked and scared, and told police that his grandmother tried to drown him in the bathtub. 

The grandmother admitted to officers what she tried to do. She told police that she had tied the boy up, and even showed officers the twine she used.

She is now facing 3 felony counts of child abuse. The boy is now being cared for by the Department of Child Safety.
