Dolton barricade standoff over, suspect not found inside home

A SWAT standoff was unfolding Wednesday night in Dolton. However, after 8 hours of standoff, the suspect who was thought to be barricaded inside a home was not found.

The Dolton police chief says it all started with a shooting around 1230 p.m. one street over from the SWAT standoff. The chief says a man met the suspect to buy an iPhone and was shot in the side. The victim collapsed in the street and the suspect was believed to have ran to his family home one street over where he barricaded himself.

“We set up a perimeter, we don't want anybody coming out of the house, we don't want anybody entering into the scene, we don't want anyone to get hurt so after we secure this scene, the South Suburban Emergency Response Team will get together and they will make entry into the house. We’ve been trying to coax him out of the house all day long on a PA system and loud speaker asking him to come out with no response,” police said.

The suspect, thought to be in his late teens, may be involved in other crimes. The Dolton police chief says several of his officers know the man. He’s also known to South Holland law enforcement.
