Humboldt Park shooting: 11-year-old boy wounded after minor traffic crash

An 11-year-old boy was wounded Friday morning in a shooting that followed a traffic crash in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The incident happened around 8:27 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Western Avenue. Two vehicles were involved in a minor collision, and when one driver attempted to exchange information with the other, the situation escalated.

The suspect pulled out a gun and began firing at the victim's vehicle, according to police. One of the shots hit the 11-year-old, who was a passenger in the victim's car. He sustained a gunshot wound to his left hand and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

The shooter fled in an unknown direction, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
