Investigation underway after child found in West Town

There was shock and awe in West Town Tuesday night after a toddler was found wandering in the street.

The Chicago Police Department (CPD)said the 18-month-old girl was left unattended at 1840 W. Ohio Street, which is Mancel Tolcott Elementary school, just before 4 p.m.

"It’s so sad. There's places where you can leave a baby without question, where it's safe," one neighbor said.

Police transported the child to Lurie Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.

The area where the child was found is very family-oriented, with lots of people out and about walking their dogs and enjoying the fall weather.

Neighbors were also checking their surveillance cameras to see if they captured any activity involving the child.

CPD says more than likely the case will be transferred over to the Department of Children and Family Services.
