Source: Union backing Preckwinkle now reassessing level of support

CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - After pulling her campaign commercials off the air, mayoral candidate Toni Preckwinkle faced tough questions Tuesday night.

Sources tell FOX 32 News at least one of the labor unions who gave Preckwinkle big bucks now fears she will lose April 2nd and is re-assessing its support for her.

Meanwhile, a growing group of unions and others have recently endorsed Lori Lightfoot.

After the two candidates faced off at the Malcolm X Campus of City Colleges, Lightfoot was happy to talk about the sudden disappearance of Preckwinkle's TV commercials.

“I don't know what the rationale would be two weeks out from an election not to be on TV. It doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to me,” Lightfoot said.

“We're making strategic decisions to put us in the best place to win this campaign. I'm very grateful for the warm reception that I’ve received around the city,” Preckwinle responded.

Preckwinkle spoke about it at a news conference unveiling an endorsement from Congressman Danny Davis. Although public and private polling finds Lightfoot with a big lead, she said it won't be over until votes are counted April 2nd.

“No! It's absolutely not over! No, no, no, no, no!” Lightfoot exclaimed.

The two candidates have agreed to several more face-to-face forums.
