SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - We’re taking our first look at body-cam video of South Daytona Police rescuing a little boy being from a sweltering car. The video shows police opening the car door and letting the five-year-old out of the hot vehicle.
All the while, cops say his mom, colleen walker, was casually strolling around this dollar general store for 28 minutes. That was also caught here on the store surveillance video. South Daytona’s police chief, Ronald Wright, says he couldn't believe what she said when they cuffed her and locked her in their cruiser.
“The whole thing is annoying. On the way out to the branch jail, she told my officer, ‘Can you turn up the air conditioning? It's hot back here!’”
Thankfully the boy was not injured. The Department of Family Services is investigating the case. Police are charging walker with child neglect.
