Bicyclist, 59, struck and killed in Ravenswood

CHICAGO - A man was fatally struck while riding his bike early Tuesday in the Ravenswood neighborhood.

A vehicle that was traveling northbound before 1 a.m. struck the 59-year-old bicyclist who was going in the same direction in the 5100 block of North Damen Avenue, police said. 

The bicyclist suffered trauma to the head and body and was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later. His identity has not yet been released by the Cook County medical examiner's office.

The driver stayed at the scene of the crash. Police said they will be issued traffic citations.

CPD's Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
