Honolulu becomes first major U.S. city to ban texting while walking across the street
HONOLULU (Fox 32 News) - Honolulu has become the first major U.S. city to ban texting while crossing the street.
The new law will go into effect in late October.
Fines start at $15; people who violate the law repeatedly could face a fine of $99.
The law allows first responders and people calling 911 to report an emergency are exempt.
