1-year-old critically wounded after being shot in head in Chicago
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A 1-year-old boy was shot in the head Thursday evening in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the Far South Side.
About 5:30 p.m., the boy was in the back seat of a parked in the 9900 block of South Throop when he was shot in the head, according to Chicago police. Witnesses told police the gunshots came from a dark, older model car.
The boy was driven to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park and later transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police said.
Four other people in the vehicle were not wounded, according to police.
Detectives are looking into whether the shooter had the wrong target.
Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi wrote in a tweet Friday that authorities “believe this was not a random shooting and are working with the family to get additional information.”
Police released photos Friday evening of a vehicle wanted in the shooting. The frames show a dark-colored four-door car. Police did not offer additional description of the shooter.
“We are praying for this young boy as detectives search area for possible crime & traffic cameras that may have captured the offending vehicles direction of flight,” Guglielmi said.
