DOLTON (Sun-Times Media Wire) - The wrong-way driver in a fatal crash Saturday morning on the Bishop Ford Freeway in south suburban Dolton has been charged with DUI.
Derrick Williams, 44, of Dolton, was charged with one count of aggravated DUI, according to Illinois State police.
Williams was driving in a Kia Borrego SUV headed north in the southbound lanes of I-94 about 2:30 a.m. when the car crash head-on into a Saturn that was southbound near 147th Street, according to Illinois State Police.
Two men in the Saturn were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, state police said.
The passenger, 27-year-old Francisco Sotelo Juarez, was later pronounced dead, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 1000 block of Emerald Avenue in Chicago Heights.
The Saturn’s driver, a 34-year-old man who also lives in Chicago Heights, was listed in serious condition.
Williams was taken to Franciscan St. Margaret Health in Hammond, Ind., with minor injuries, according to police.
