CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A 67-year-old woman was killed and three other people were injured when a vehicle crashed into a car before plowing into a CTA bus shelter Tuesday evening in the Calumet Heights neighborhood on the South Side, police said.

A BMW was northbound on Stony Island near 95th Street at 6:22 p.m. when it collided with a Chevrolet sedan as the driver was making a left turn, according to Chicago Police.

The BMW’s male driver then lost control of the vehicle, which went onto the sidewalk and hit the woman before crashing into the bus shelter in the 1600 block of East 95th.

The woman on the sidewalk, Janice M. Gilmore, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She lived in the Pill Hill neighborhood on the South Side. Her death was ruled an accident.

Two women, ages 21 and 20, and a 5-year-old girl who were standing at the bus shelter at the time of the crash later showed up at Trinity Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

A 25-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Chevrolet was also taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, but has since been stabilized, police said.

The driver of the BMW was cited for failure to reduce speed and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, police said. The Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
