Chicago police increasing number of homicide detectives amid crime surge

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown and Mayor Lori Lightfoot spoke with the media Tuesday afternoon at CPD headquarters and went over safety plans for the new year. 

A 17-year-old boy was shot Sunday afternoon on Chicago's South Side.

The shooting occurred in the 5000 block of South Drexel.

At about 5 p.m., the teen was near the street when he was shot in the leg, police said.

He was transported to the hospital in good condition.

No offenders are currently in custody.

Area detectives continue to investigate.
