2 killed in Uptown shooting are first homicides of 2017

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - Two men shot to death Sunday morning in the North Side Uptown neighborhood were the first two reported homicides of 2017 in Chicago, after a bloody 2016 saw 780 homicides in the city.

The two men were shooting at each other about 4:25 a.m. inside of a business in the 4600 block of North Broadway, according to Chicago Police.

Maurice Delaney, 38, of the 9000 block of Skokie Boulevard in Skokie, was shot in the chest and right leg, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Ali Mohamed, 31, of the 6400 block of North Oakley, was shot multiple times in his right side.

Both men were taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead at 5:19 a.m., authorities said.

Last year ended with 780 homicides in the city, according to Sun-Times records.
