2 dead in murder-suicide in northwest Indiana

Two people are dead after being shot inside of a Portage home Tuesday afternoon.

At about 2:52 p.m., Portage officers responded to the 5900 block of Marbella Avenue in response to a 911 call from a female juvenile.

The girl said that she returned home to find her mother and father injured and were possibly dead, police said.

When officers arrived, a 45-year-old woman was found inside, near the front of the home.

The woman suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was deceased.

A 45-year-old man was found in another part of the home, alive but unconscious, police said.

The man appeared to have sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

A firearm was recovered from the scene, police said.

According to preliminary information, police believe this incident was a murder/suicide.
