$250K bond for NW Side man charged with child porn

CHICAGO (STMW) - The owner of an anime shop in the Northwest Side Portage Park neighborhood was ordered held on a $250,000 bond Wednesday after being charged with possessing child pornography.

Dennis T. Long, 54, faces two felony counts of child pornography/possessing photos of a victim under 13, according to Chicago Police. Long is the owner of the Angry Manga Guy Anime Shop at 5715 W. Irving Park Rd, the same block where he lives.

On Jan. 28, 2015, Long rented a storage unit at a U-Haul facility in the 4300 block of North Cicero Avenue, Assistant State’s Attorney Karisa Flores said at Long’s bond hearing Wednesday.

Due to lack of payment, employees prepared the unit for auction on Nov. 19, 2015 and videotaped its contents, Flores said. The unit was put up for auction on Jan. 10, but no one bought it.

About 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 21, the employees began emptying the unit and were carrying out a desk when the contents fell to the ground, including a stack of pornographic images of children, Flores said. Some of the photos showed children in “lewd” poses, prosecutors said. The U-Haul employees called Chicago Police.

Long admitted that he rented the unit and the desk was his property, Flores said. At his hearing, Long wore khaki pants hiked up high and a lime green shirt. He said he is a union carpenter.

Judge Adam Bourgeois ordered him held on a $250,000 bond.
