3.1 earthquake reported in Illinois: USGS

A 3.1 earthquake was reported in southern Illinois Sunday night.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake struck at 10:10 p.m. near Waltonville, Illinois, which has a population of 434 people.

The depth of the earthquake was 16.6 km, officials said.

This earthquake comes about a month after a 3.6 earthquake hit central Illinois.
