SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE - Three people were wounded in a shooting Thursday night in south suburban Riverdale, just blocks away from where a man had been killed in another shooting only hours earlier.
They were standing at a driveway about 9:17 p.m. in the 13700 block of Wallace Avenue when two or three men between 19 and 25 years old walked up and fired shots, Riverdale Police Chief David W. DeMik said at a news conference Friday. The suspects then ran north.
Police said shell casings found at the scene indicated that the shooters used handguns.
Two of the victims were taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition, but were later stabilized, DeMik said. The third was taken with a “minor gunshot wound” to MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island.
Donna and Danelle Noland, who live nearby, said two of the victims were Donna Noland’s 20-year-old son and 19-year-old nephew.
DeMik said detectives have obtained descriptions of the suspects from witnesses and the victim who suffered the minor injury and planned to interview the other victims.
The shooting occurred a few blocks away from the Riverdale Police Department, 725 W. 138th St.
Investigators could not give a motive for the shooting, but DeMik said the area where it occurred is known for drug sales.
Another man was shot to death about 4 p.m. Thursday less than a mile away in the 13900 block of South Dearborn Street, DeMik said.
Marcquis Robinson, 28, was pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. He lived in Merrillville, Indiana.
DeMik said there was no indication that the two shootings were related.
