CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - Seven people were wounded in shootings across Chicago Wednesday, including a man who was shot while driving on Lake Shore Drive.
Officers were called to the scene of a crash in the 500 block of North Lake Shore about 10:30 p.m., according to Chicago Police. They arrived to find a 22-year-old man inside a car with a gunshot wound to his lower back.
He had been driving on Lake Shore when someone in a black SUV fired shots and hit him, police said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
A passenger in the car, a 25-year-old man, was not hit by gunfire but was taken to Presence Saint Joseph Hospital to be treated for an anxiety attack, police said.
A police source said both men are documented gang members.
Nearly half an hour earlier, a man was shot while driving in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.
The 35-year-old was driving through an alley in the 6700 block of South Artesian about 10:05 p.m. when two males in a nearby gangway shot him, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with gunshot wounds to his right shoulder and left hand, and his condition was stabilized.
Earlier Wednesday night, a man was shot in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
The 26-year-old man was shot in the abdomen about 8:40 p.m. in the 4100 block of West Dickens, police said. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition.
About 4 p.m., a 21-year-old man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The man was outside in the 2700 block of West Flournoy when someone opened fire from a black Ford Mustang, according to police. He was shot in the right shoulder and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in fair condition. Investigators think the shooting was gang-related.
About two hours earlier, a man was wounded in a drive-by shooting in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.
The 25-year-old was walking in the 6800 block of South Elizabeth at 1:49 p.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, then saw a dark vehicle fleeing northbound, police said. He was shot in the lower left leg and took himself to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition stabilized. Police said the victim is a documented gang member.
Several hours earlier, a man was shot in the East Garfield Park neighborhood.
The shooting happened in the 3400 block of West Harrison about 10 a.m., according to police. The 43-year-old man was shot in both legs, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. His condition was not immediately available. Police said the victim is a convicted felon and documented gang member.
Wednesday’s first shooting happened at 12:30 a.m. in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side.
A 21-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle in the 1000 block of West 97th Street when a white car drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was shot in both legs and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
