CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - British Astronaut Tim Peake gave his parents quite a shock when they discovered that he left them a message on their answering machine from outer space.

Peake’s parents tell ITV they were away from their home for the weekend and so that's why they missed his call.

In the message, Peake says jokingly, “This is just your son calling from the International Space Station. I’m sorry you’re not in.”

“It was quite surreal,” father Nigel told ITV. “We had just popped out for about an hour, came home, there’s an answer phone message: ‘Hello this is your son on the International Space Station.'”

Peake’s parents say they will never be deleting the message. You can listen to the message here.
