LAS VEGAS (Fox 32 News) - OJ Simpson will have a parole hearing on Thursday, and his attorney said he is likely to go free.
Yale Galanter, a former Simpson attorney, told the Daily News that Simpson has behaved well during his nine years in prison. Simpson is serving time for a scheme to steal sports memorabilia at gunpoint.
"It’s based on his behavior in prison and that certainly hasn’t changed,” Galanter said. "Here, if you’re a model prisoner, you behave yourself, you’re not a flight risk, you get paroled.”
Galanter told USA Today that the Nevada parole system is largely based on points earned through good behavior and is not entirely up to the whims of the parole board.
The parole board normally issues decisions weeks after hearings, but plans to announce its decision in this case on Thursday.
Even if Simpson is granted parole, he will not be released immediately. His release date would likely be October 1.
Simpson was tried and acquitted of murdering his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman, in California in the 1990s.
