CHICAGO (STMW) - A west suburban man was sentenced to 21 years in prison Wednesday for the armed robbery of a drug dealer at his Aurora home.
Tranon D. Meeks, 27, was convicted by a jury of armed robbery and possession of cannabis on Oct. 28, 2015, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
About 5 p.m. on Jan 9, 2014, the victim went to Meeks’ home in the 400 block of Blackhawk Street in Aurora to sell him marijuana, prosecutors said. When the dealer arrived, Meeks pointed a .22. caliber Marlin semiautomatic rifle at him and said, “You know what this is.”
Meeks took the victim’s watch, wallet, cash, cellphone, backpack and the marijuana, prosecutors said.
Judge John Barsanti sentenced Meeks to 21 years in prison. His sentence was enhanced because he was in possession of a firearm during the commission of the robbery, according to the statement.
He will receive credit for at least 762 days served in the Kane County jail.
