Aurora police seek suspect in killing of 82-year-old man

Police in west suburban Aurora say they need help finding a suspect in the killing of an 82-year-old man last month.

The suspect, Jose Barragan, 26, of Aurora, is still at large despite an "extensive" search, police said. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

What we know:

A little before 7 p.m. on Jan 1, Aurora police responded to the 0-49 block of North Anderson Street after an alert from ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system.

Officers found Fidel Macias-Hernandez inside his home with multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Investigators learned Macias-Hernandez was walking in his kitchen when a gunman fired multiple rounds into the home from outside. The suspect fled the scene on foot.

Despite treatment from paramedics, Macias-Hernandez died on Jan. 16.

Barragan is wanted on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and armed violence.

He is described as being 5-foot-4, weighing 130 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and multiple tattoos on his chest, fingers, and forearms.
