HENRY COUNTY, Ga. - Authorities in Henry County said a dog, which was shoved out of a moving car, had to be euthanized because of the extent of its injuries.
Henry County Animal Control employees said they are heartbroken over this case. Animal control said they picked the 100-pound dog up Thursday night after witnesses said they saw someone throw the dog out of a moving car along Zach Hinton Parkway and Highway 41 in McDonough.
Sunday, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue got him. While at the rescue, Niki DeVito, with the rescue, said he wouldn’t eat and couldn’t keep anything down. DeVito said they eventually brought him to a vet for a more extensive exam. That’s when they realized the dog not only had pneumonia, but a condition called megaesophagus.
DeVito said they tried to make the dog as comfortable as possible, but in the end, they realized he would not have a good quality life from that point forward. Monday, they made the tough decision to euthanize the dog.
Rescue workers said the dog is believed to be middle-aged and had no color or chip. While her time with him was short-lived, DeVito said no animal deserves what happened to him and the person responsible needs to answer for his actions.
Authorities said the car was a late-model white Chevrolet Impala with Florida plates. Authorities have since learned the car was stolen from Hertz rental car.
