New details have emerged about Wednesday’s shooting of a 16-year-old boy on a South Side basketball court.
Kejuan Thomas was shot at point blank range in the head and chest. He died at the scene. His family says the gunman approached the boy and his stepbrother and asked a terrifying question.
"If somebody knows something, somebody's harboring somebody in their house...I don't believe that these young kids pull the trigger and they don't tell anybody. They talk,” said anti-violence activist Dawn Valenti.
Thomas’ family says he was involved in a basketball camp at the park and hoped to play well enough at Tilden High School to get a college scholarship.
"The family is just heartbroken at this time. It's a plea for help,” said the victim’s godmother, Tiffany.
The godmother of 16-year-old Kejuan Thomas revealed new details about Wednesday’s shooting at Bradley Park in the Jeffrey Manor neighborhood.
Thomas, who would have been a junior at Tilden High School, was playing basketball with his stepbrother when a man wearing a dark hoody walked up to them.
"The stepbrother was saying he came from out of nowhere, and he said 'which one? Which one should I shoot?' Like which one of you all. A heinous question,” Tiffany said. "And you chose for whatever reason, for whatever satanic reason, you chose Kejuan."
"Kejuan was a very sweet child. he was family oriented. I want them to know he was raised with the best intentions of his mother. he was very loved. He was a lovable kid,” Tiffany said.
