A woman and a child were killed in an overnight fire in far south suburban Minooka.

A young child and a woman died in a house fire that injured two others early Friday in far southwest suburban Minooka.

Waveland Fitch, 5, was pronounced dead at the scene, and Susan M. Weber, 57, was taken to Morris Hospital, where she also died, according to the Will County and Grundy County county coroner’s offices.

Firefighters responded about 1 a.m. for two people trapped inside a one-story home in the 24000 block of Bell Road, according to a statement from the Channahon Fire Protection District.

Two other occupants of the home had escaped when authorities arrived, according to the statement. They were treated at Morris Hospital.

The fire was put out by 2:06 a.m., but crews remained on scene until after 8 a.m., according to the fire protection district. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Fitch’s autopsy results are pending further testing, the Will County coroner’s office said.
