Buckingham Fountain dyed red by vandals

Buckingham Fountain in Chicago's Grant Park will be closed until further notice after it was vandalized Friday night. The water was dyed red and several messages were painted in the surrounding area.

Buckingham Fountain in Chicago's Grant Park was restored and turned back on after it was vandalized Friday night.

The fountain was closed effective immediately after it was dyed red and several messages were written in what appeared to be paint on the bricks nearby. 

One read, "Stop the genocide."

The Chicago Park District posted on X around 9:30 a.m. Saturday saying that the fountain would be closed until further notice for crews to perform maintenance. 

The fountain was fully operational and reopened by 11 a.m. Sunday. 

Chicago police are investigating the incident.
