CHICAGO - Police have launched a homicide investigation after a body was found in the trunk of a burning car Friday morning blocks away from Guaranteed Rate Field in Bridgeport.
Police and firefighters responded around 2 a.m. to an alley in the 3700 block of South Parnell Avenue where a vehicle was on fire, officials said.
The fire was put out and further investigation revealed a body was in the trunk of the vehicle. The victim, who remains unidentified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No one is in custody. Area One detectives are investigating.
Alderwoman Nicole Lee, 11th Ward, says her heart breaks for the family.
"Our hearts are broken for the family of this victim, whoever they are, and I hope that the authorities can identify the victim as quickly as possible. I can’t even imagine what that would be like, just so close to the holidays," Lee said. "The police are investigating now, they are looking for any sort of video footage folks have around the vicinity of 37th and Parnell, leading to it and in and around the area. So, if you have video footage like that useful for the police, please reach out to the 9th District."
In addition to providing surveillance video, if you saw anything suspicious in the area last night, you're asked to contact the police.
