Two Chicago Fire Department employees fended off a would-be thief who tried to rob them on the city’s South Side early Monday morning.

The workers arrived responding to a call in the 7900 block of South Throop Street in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood around 1:48 a.m. when an unknown male approached them and implied he had a weapon, Chicago police said.

The suspect took an unknown amount of money while still implying the weapon.

The victims managed to overpower the suspect and detain him for responding police officers.

The victim had minor injuries during the incident and was placed into custody. No weapon was found.

Area detectives are investigating the incident.
