CHICAGO (Fox 32 News) - One of Chicago's iconic rock and roll clubs is about to get a second life and a new home. Double Door, which closed its doors in 2016, will be reopening in Uptown.

"I see a canvas that's going to turn into an amazing room," said Sean Mulroney, Double Door owner, on Saturday as he gave us a tour of the new building at 1050 West Wilson.

The old Double Door had to close after 24 years in the same spot on Milwaukee Avenue in Wicker Park over a rent dispute.

The new location started out as a bank, then became a vaudeville theater. The local alderman said the latest transformation is another sign that Uptown is becoming a major entertainment destination. Existing venues include the Riviera, the Aragon, and the Green Mill. Next year, renovation of the massive Uptown Theater will get underway.

"I'm very excited about it," said Ald. James Cappleman (46). "I want it to be a place where people from all over the city and the state come for entertainment. And we want to do that at the same time by keeping this area extraordinarily diverse."

The old Double Door location hosted acts like the Rolling Stones, the Smashing Pumpkins, Kid Rock, Common, Usher, Macy Grey and Wu Tang Clan. The new Double Door shuld open next fall.

"I think it's great to revive that classic Chicago name," said music fan Cale Patton. "It means a lot to a lot of people. A lot of p[eople were sad when it closed, so it's huge."
