Chicago police are warning residents who use the 606 Trail to be alert. They are currently investigating three similar robberies that occurred this month.
In all instances, police officials said the victims were riding bicycles and were pushed to the ground. Then the suspects, two males, robbed them of their personal belongings.
The latest incident happened Sunday at 4:30 AM and the victim was beat up. Also in that crime, the victim reports one of the suspects was armed with a small black handgun.
The first occurred July 2nd at 1:15 in the morning at 3510 west Bloomingdale. Then again on Saturday at 5:30 at night at 3300 west Bloomingdale and again early Sunday morning around 4:30 at the very end of the trail on North Ridgeway.
The 606 Trail opened two summers ago and since has been attractive to residents connecting several west side neighborhoods.
The 2.7 miles of paved path sees heavy foot and bike traffic, but it also sees crime.
The trail, which closes at 11 at night, is patrolled by Chicago police and has numerous cameras – which are being reviewed as part of the current investigation
Chicago police warn path users to be alert and report any suspicious behavior to police.
