Chicago rapper Lil Durk was acquitted Friday of violating his probation after he was arrested on a gun charge, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

As a result, Cook County prosecutors dropped his unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon charges from 2014, the musician’s attorney Sam Adam Jr. said.

Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk D. Banks, Tweeted “Thank God” after Judge Timothy James Joyce acquitted him.

He also wrote on Instagram, “Thank God for my lawyer who been there since day one Sam Adams [sic] Jr. I beat my case today and now I can get to the money and growth of my career and being a father to my kids thank you God 2X.”

Banks pleaded guilty to a weapons charge in 2012 and was sentenced to a year in prison.

Then in June 2013, officers went to the 7200 block of South Green Street and said they saw Banks with a handgun. He pleaded guilty and received probation for that case.

A year later, when police officers investigating a homicide went to a home in the south suburbs, they said they saw Banks inside. They also said there were two guns there.

But there was no proof that the guns belonged to Banks or that he had the weapons, Adam said.

Banks’ probation was also terminated Friday.

Adam says now that Banks is free, he can focus on “positivity.”

Banks, 23, has performed with South Side rappers Chief Keef, Lil Reese and other members of the Keef-owned record label Glory Boyz Entertainment.
