CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) – Some Chicago residents say they're tired of the homeless living under viaducts in their neighborhood.

Now they're asking Mayor Emanuel to enforce the city's rules and have them removed.

Neighbors sent a letter to the mayor and aldermen James Cappleman (46th) and Harry Osterman (48th) asking the city to help remove homeless from “Tent City” on Wilson just off of Lake Shore Drive.

There are about 30 tents down here this morning, many filled with families.

A combination of people with mental illness, substance abuse issues and others who are down on their luck inhabit "Tent City."

One woman said she’s been living there with her family for over a year. She says it’s a tough situation but they take pride in where they live and they are upset neighbors have a problem with the homeless living there.

“We keep the 'Tent City' clean, we keep the park clean. We sweep, we rake, we pick up the garbage,” the woman said. “I don’t know what their problem is.

The letter offers shelter options, but many people here say it isn't that simple. There's a limit on how long you can stay and many times families have to split up.
