Chicago weather: Warm temps and heavy rain
Chicago weather: Thursday morning forecast
FOX 32's Mike Caplan breaks down today's weather outlook.
CHICAGO - Chicago will see unseasonably warm temperatures today with rain moving in by the evening, potentially causing minor flooding, before temperatures drop slightly but remain mild through the weekend.
Chicago weather forecast
We will make a run at today’s record high of 55 degrees set in 1988. However, my fear now is that the temperatures have dropped to a chilly-enough level this morning that it might be difficult to break that record. Therefore, I am reverting back to my original pick of 54° for today’s high.
Early sunshine will fade as a storm system approaches from the southwest. Temperatures will be clearly warm enough for this to be a rain event starting in many areas late this afternoon and continuing into the evening. It appears the heavier second wave of rain will target early tomorrow morning with more impacts in the morning commute than what we see even this afternoon.
The rain may fall heavily enough on the frozen ground to cause some runoff issues leading to flooding. This might be particularly the case along rivers in our area that have ice in them.
Whatever the temperature is at midnight will likely go in the books as Friday’s high, which I expect to be in the lower 40s. After the rain ends tomorrow afternoon temperatures will be falling, but will not be cold enough for any issues with snow.
Heading into the weekend, Saturday and Sunday will both be mostly cloudy. Highs on Saturday will be around 40 with 50°+ temperatures likely on Groundhog Day.
