CHICAGO - A Cicero mom has been charged after a handgun was found inside a kindergartner's backpack at a suburban elementary school Friday morning.
Marissa Embrey, 35, was charged with endangering the life of a child and carrying a concealed weapon in a prohibited area.
Embrey, who is a Concealed Carry License holder (CCL) and has a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, placed a handgun in the 5-year-old student's backpack to transport it to her vehicle.
She then allegedly drove her son to Columbus West School in Cicero, placed the backpack on him and forgot to remove the handgun.
A program assistant was then helping the boy, who has a disability, find his student ID and found the handgun.

Police then recovered the weapon when they arrived.
School officials say none of the students or staff were ever in imminent danger. No one was hurt.
Embrey was arrested and charged in connection to the incident and the child was released to the custody of a family member.
Embrey posted a $100.00 cash bond and was released. She is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 13.
