You have probably seen the video of the three kids walking near 63rd and Halsted with what appears to be a handgun. Well on Tuesday, community activists tried to help those boys find a better path.
For community activists Andrew Holmes and Michael Airhart, the video broke their hearts. They found two of the three boys and had a heart to heart.
A Chicago Park District youth football practice started Tuesday night with a visit from two community activists. They were there to spread a message of love - this after a video went viral showing three young boys in an Englewood shopping center - one of them appears to be carrying a weapon - and after provoked by a driver - he pulls the gun out.
Chicago police say they found the boys - two of which are brothers - ages 9 and 11 and learned the gun was fake. But activists say regardless - the outcome could've been much worse.
“Can you imagine if they would have pulled it out and someone else would have rolled past and just started shooting at them or the police, the first thing they do is say drop it and they are scared and they holding it, what's going to happen?” Airhart said.
The two activists say they had a heart to heart with the young boys in the video and decided to spread the message with their football team
The activists say kids carrying guns is a real problem in Chicago and the kids are getting younger and younger.
Police have recovered the replica gun that was in the video.
