Frankfort rooftop rescue: Man hospitalized after being trapped on top of Grainery tower

A contractor was rescued from the top of the Frankfort Grainery tower after falling 15 feet and injuring his arm. He's hospitalized but in stable condition. Tia Ewing has more.

A contractor had quite the unexpected happen to him while on the job – becoming trapped on top of the Frankfort Grainery tower with a "severely broken arm." 

Frankfort fire and police were called just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday after the contractor, who was servicing an antenna, fell 15 feet and broke his arm.

After the injury, he wasn't able to get back to the ground level on his own, according to officials. 

When emergency crews arrived, they made contact with the contractor by phone. The contractor told fire officials about his injury and how he wasn't able to get down due to his "severely fractured arm."

Rooftop rescue underway at Frankfort tower

A rooftop rescue is underway at the Frankfort Grainery tower, after a contractor got injured while servicing an antennae.

Firefighters then began to ascend using a ladder to reach the contractor.

Once they were able to get to the injured man, they warmed him with blankets and hot packs before treating his injuries, according to officials. 

Frankfort fire crews rush to help contractor trapped on roof of tower. 

He was in stable condition throughout the emergency response. 

Frankfort fire officials requested more firefighters and technical rescue technicians to assist with lowering the contractor to the ground level from inside the tower. 

The contractor went down three levels before fire officials handed him out of a window to more firefighters who were on a tower ladder on the outside of the building.

Not long after, the injured man reached the ground level where he was then taken by ambulance to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. He's still in stable condition. 

The entire rescue mission took three hours total. No other injuries were reported.
