Disney removing transgender storyline from upcoming Pixar series 'Win or Lose'

EMERYVILLE, Calf. - Disney is stirring controversy after deciding to edit out a transgender storyline from its upcoming animated series "Win or Lose."
The series follows a middle school co-ed softball team in the lead up to a big game.
The transgender character will remain in the show – but Disney decided to remove several lines of dialogue that reference the character's gender identity, Fox News Digital confirmed.
The company said it wants to allow parents to discuss those topics with their children.
"When it comes to animated content for a younger audience, we recognize that many parents would prefer to discuss certain subjects with their children on their own terms and timeline," a Disney spokesperson told Fox News Digital about the changes made to the show.
Eighteen-year-old actress Chanel Stewart voices the transgender character.
Steward told Deadline that she was "disheartened" to hear the storyline was removed.
"From the moment I got the script, I was excited to share my journey to help empower other trans youth. I knew this would be a very important conversation. Trans stories matter, and they deserve to be heard," the actress told Deadline.
The series is produced by Emeryville-based Pixar, a division of Disney, and it's set to begin streaming in February.
The cast of the series includes WIll Forte, Izaac Wang, Ian Chen and Jo Firestone.
