Classes resume today for students at two Dixmoor schools after water main breaks
Classes will resume Wednesday for students at two Dixmoor schools after a series of water main breaks canceled the past two days of school.
DIXMOOR, Ill. - Students at two Dixmoor schools will return to class Wednesday following a closure due to water main breaks.
Dixmoor's Martin Luther King Elementary and Rose Parks Middle School have been closed since Monday morning for water main repairs.
Four water mains broke over the weekend, another on Monday morning, and several more broke Tuesday.
Michael Smith Sr., president of the Dixmoor School Board, said he talked with officials and made the decision to return to classes.

Dixmoor experiences 10 water main breaks in 4 days
In Dixmoor, the leaks just keep popping up. There were five new water main breaks in the south suburb Tuesday, bringing the total number of breaks to 10 in just four days. The affected areas are under a boil order.
Pallets of water will be delivered to Martin Luther King Elementary and Rosa Parks Middle School and lunches will be made off site.

Smith said the district has had enough class interruption over the last two years and they’re going to power through.
Mayor Fitzgerald Roberts said there has been 10 water main breaks as of Tuesday in just a matter of days.
Mayor Roberts says they need help – and they need it fast.
"I appreciate the help we are getting from Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle," Roberts said. "The crews the County sent us have helped us get to a point where we can get these repairs done. I also thank Cook County Commissioner Deborah Sims, our Village Board, our staff, and our public works department of all of their hard work."
The broken water mains were expected to be repaired by Wednesday evening. No boil water orders are in effect, according to the village.
