River North hit-and-run injures 4 people, including Chicago police officer

A Chicago police sergeant and a 5-year-old girl were among four people injured by a driver fleeing a traffic stop Saturday evening on a Near North Side.

A Chicago police officer and three other people were injured in the city's River North neighborhood on Saturday night.

Chicago police said that a sergeant was conducting a traffic stop around 8 p.m. at State Street and Grand Avenue on a red Honda. The driver refused to get out and put his car into gear, running down the officer and swerving into a crowd of people crossing the street.

A 5-year-old girl, a 38-year-old woman and another woman whose age wasn’t immediately known were injured, but are expected to recover.

The police officer's injuries are not life-threatening.

Police are still searching for the driver responsible.
