Elmhurst youth baseball teams historic run comes to an end after falling short to New Albany

A youth baseball team in Elmhurst will not be advancing to the Little League World Series after losing on Thursday.

A youth baseball team in Elmhurst will not be advancing to the Little League World Series after losing on Thursday.

This would have been the team's first time making it to the national stage.

The do-or-die game for the Elmhurst Youth Baseball’s 12u team started around 4 p.m.

"Win or lose, this team has been so amazing and so fun to watch," said community member Kate Kinne. "These kids have worked so hard."

The crowd at Doc's Victory Pub was electric as every television in the place had the game on. Fans, friends and family members watched in excitement.

"The support is fantastic!" said Jim Caffrey, who is on the Elmhurst Youth Baseball board. "Can you believe this? This whole town came together!"

The boys played a team from New Albany, Ohio, and lost 4-0.

On Sunday, the Elmhurst 14-year-old Little League team will be playing in the World Series – the community is planning to get together for that game as well.
