Driver killed after her SUV hit median, tree on Chicago’s South Side

The driver of a car was killed after she hit a median and a tree on Chicago’s South Side early Sunday morning.

The 32-year-old woman driving the Hyundai SUV was traveling westbound in the 500 block of West Garfield Boulevard at a high rate of speed around 3:45 a.m., according to Chicago police. The SUV hit a median and then hit a tree before the driver was ejected from the car.

First responders took the driver to the University of Chicago Medical Center where she died.

The Major Accidents Unit is investigating the crash.
