Father of young model killed 'honestly, truly' forgives shooter
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The father of a murdered model says he forgives the person who killed his baby.
Kaylyn Pryor was shot and killed last Monday in the 7300 block of South May. The 20-year-old was shot in the armpit and died at a local hospital. Police say the shooting may be gang related, but the woman was not the intended target.
“I’m willing to do whatever it takes so it doesn't happen to anybody else,” said Alan Scott, Kaylyn’s father.
He calls the past week a nightmare and said none of it feels real.
“Just want to see her, we talked all the time and I always told her I loved her,” said Scott. “Tell her I love her and hold her and tell her how proud of her I am.”
Kaylyn was on the verge of a successful modeling career, was a high school track star and wanted to become a lawyer.
Scott says she was visiting his parents moments before the shooting, and that his dad even heard the gunshots.
“Actually from their front porch they can look down the street and see the memorial,” said Scott, who grew up in that neighborhood and where his two daughters were born.
When Kaylyn was just 2 years old, Scott moved the family to Evanston where he felt safer and for the next 18 years he was able to protect her, until a bullet took her away.
“I hope that he turns himself in, I truly, honestly from the bottom of my heart forgive him,” he said.
On Saturday, Scott will bury his baby. Then, he wants to make sure his nightmare doesn't become someone else's reality.
“It’s up to us, we need to band together, we can't just rely on somebody else to raise our kids, we have to raise our kids, we have to teach them right,” he said.
Police are still looking for the shooter. If you know anything about this shooting, call police. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. $5,000 is being donated by St. Sabina Church, and another $5,000 is being offered from the Leaders' Network.
