CHICAGO - A fire that started outside a popular café and event space near Lincoln Park Zoo on Friday morning left a man and a firefighter injured.
The blaze, reportedly sparked by a group of propane tanks, was reported around 5 a.m. at 2021 N. Stockton Dr.
Three fire trucks and an ambulance responded to the scene, and the fire was extinguished shortly after.
A 46-year-old man suffered minor injuries and was transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital in fair condition, according to police. Chicago Fire Department officials said the man is also under investigation for allegedly starting the fire.
One firefighter was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries and is in good condition, CFD said.
There were no reports of injuries to animals.
The fire appeared to have started near the side of the building where the ballroom and patio are located. Cafe Brauer backs up to the South Pond and nature area portion of the zoo.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
