CHICAGO (FOX 32 News/ AP) — Public transit officials in Chicago say workers have completed installation of 4G wireless service on the city's subway system.
People traveling along the 22 miles of subway stations and tunnels on the Blue and Red lines now have upgraded wireless coverage to stream data on their mobile devices.
Four major cellphone providers funded the $32.5 million project in a deal with the city.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office says the project makes Chicago the largest city in North America to have 4G wireless coverage across its subway system. The mayor's office says the design and installation of the system created about 50 jobs.
FOX 32's Jake Hamilton took a ride on the Blue Line Thursday morning to try the new service out for himself. Check out how it works in the video play above!
