FOX 32's Dawn Hasbrouck talks 1-on-1 with Rev Run
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Remember Run DMC? Well, Rev Run was in town Tuesday and FOX 32 got a chance to rap with him one-on-one, which is no small feat. He’s a busy man.
Reverend Run, who’s formerly of Run DMC, is still running. He has a new reality show called "Reverend Runs around the World" on the Travel Channel. Plus, he has two more shows premiering soon.
On January 27, the cooking channel will be showing “Rev Runs Sunday Suppers.” Also, on January 23, I launch a show for Oprah called "It's Not You – It’s Men,” which is a relationship show. It’s gives viewers a very single man's perspective and a married man’s perspective.
Hold up: a relationship show? Preach Rev!
"You’ll see a lot of opinions flying back and forth, begging to disagree. Yes. As you can imagine, me and Tyrese. You have a lot of guests,” he said. “Amber Rose. Iyanla Vanzant, Marlon Wayans, Tisha Campbell, Vin Diesel."
Rev Run also chimed in about the recent unrest and protests in Chicago, as well as the story out of Naperville where a school district banned coaches from leading prayer before football games.
"For me, prayer is the essential thing that we need, so to push that out? I don't understand or support any decision, especially as a reverend that says you can't talk to god,” he said.
So, he continues to tweet inspirational messages through his "RevRunWisdom" Twitter account to 4.5 million followers every day.
"I’m very happy to be in a place to spread positive messages and the freedom to post them all day every day and to pray whenever I want to, and to pray for people that want to be prayed for,” he said.
Rev Run is now expanding that reach through a new partnership with AT&T, using the hashtag #InspiredMobility.
"Therefore when somebody pushes on that hashtag, they'll see all the people that are in the conversation about everything that has to do with spirituality,” he said.
As for "Run DMC" doing another show anytime soon? Well, with their busy schedules, "it's tricky.”
But Rev Run says although Jam Master J died years ago, he and DMC, Darryl McDaniels, still rock a rhyme when they can.
"Sometimes if a fest pops up and Darryl’s in the mood and I’m in the mood, we'll take a show or two,” he said.
