GARY, Ind. (STMW) - Additional armed robbery charges were filed Friday against a man accused of shooting a security guard during an attempted robbery last month in northwest Indiana.
Stephen Spivey, 21, and two other men whose faces were covered, entered the Boost Mobile store in the 2400 block of Broadway in Gary, Indiana, on Jan. 1 and robbed it at gunpoint, Gary police said in a statement.
Spivey, who lives in Gary, was charged with armed robbery for the holdup, police said. He was also previously charged in connection with an attempted armed robbery at a Gary convenience store Dec. 30 and the armed robbery of a Merrillville, Indiana, King Gyro restaurant 15 minutes later that same day.
At the time the charges were filed, Spivey was already in custody for a Jan. 22 robbery attempt at the ABC Phone Store in the 4200 block of Broadway in Gary, during which a security guard was shot in the chest and seriously wounded, police said.
For that robbery, he was charged with attempted armed robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, attempted armed robbery, battery with a deadly weapon, and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, according to police.
