Girl, 17, fatally shot in Back of the Yards
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - A 17-year-old girl was fatally shot early Saturday in Chicago, there is now a two-thousand dollar reward being offered in the case.
Naome Zuber was shot and killed while riding in the backseat of a car in the Back of the Yards neighborhood early Saturday.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. when police say a man on the sidewalk shot at the car she was in and struck her in the head. She was pronounced dead at Holy Cross Hospital.
Cook County Commissioner Sean Morrison has created a two-thousand dollar reward for information leading to an arrest in the crime. Tips can be called in at 1-800-883-5587.
Zuber was set to graduate this spring from Curie High School. She was a big sister to two brothers, a cheerleader and loved volleyball. She also worked concessions at U.S. Cellular Field.
The teenager lived about 4 miles from the shooting scene near west 45th and south Wood Street. Chicago Crisis Responder Andrew Holmes was with the girl’s family Saturday afternoon and says Zuber was with her boyfriend and two others at the time of the shooting.
Saturday night Holmes along with other community activists knocked on doors and stopped traffic near the crime scene where they passed out flyers and asked for help to solve this crime.
“If it's your relative, if he turns around and shoot these people in the street, guess what? He will do it to you,” said Holmes of the suspect.
Police are still investigating the shooting. No one is in custody.
