FOX 32 NEWS - A man has died and a boy is hospitalized after being pulled from a private pool and rushed to the hospital in south suburban Lansing.
Emergency crews were called to the Major Condominiums complex around 1 p.m., located at 3240 S. Manor Drive.
A grandfather, identified as 61-year-old Reginald Holiday, was swimming with his grandson when neighbors say the boy began to struggle.
"They said neither one of them knew how to swim. And somehow the kid ended up in the deep end grandpa couldn't swim neither and tried to save him and they weren't able to get him out,” said neighbor Jake Defelice.
A neighbor was able to get to the boy and pull him out of the pool. She told FOX 32 News off camera that she noticed the boy earlier and had tried to pass him a noodle to help him float.
The next thing she saw, though, was the boy and his grandfather face down in the pool.
"They were doing CPR on a man on one side and CPR on a child on the other. I guess the man didn't make it. But, I guess a lady did CPR, I guess she knew CPR and did it on the child,” Defelice said.
The man and boy were both in a part of the pool that was about 9 feet deep, according to witnesses.
Holiday was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. The child is expected to recover, thanks to that Good Samaritan.
