COOK COUNTY - A Harvey man has been sentenced to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated vehicular hijacking.
Stepfon Jiggetts, 25, used a dating app to lure the victim to his home in June 2019, according to Attorney General Kwame Raoul.
Once the victim arrived, Jiggetts got into the victim's vehicle and asked the victim to drive him to a nearby gas station. When the pair returned to Jiggetts' home, Jiggetts and an unidentified person began attacking the victim to get the individual out of the car.
Jiggetts then took off in the vehicle, along with the victim's phone and wallet, Raoul said.

The next morning, the stolen car was found being driven by Jiggetts, which prompted a police chase. Jiggetts crashed the vehicle, leading to a foot chase before his arrest.
When Jiggetts was taken into custody, he was found in possession of the victim's phone.
"This sentencing highlights the serious nature of carjackings and the potential danger faced by drivers who are taken advantage of by opportunistic criminals," Raoul said.
Harvey police assisted in the investigation.
