No injuries reported after shots fired at northwest Indiana mall
Shots were fired inside the Southlake Mall in northwest Indiana Thursday morning.
HOBART, Ind. - Shots were fired inside the Southlake Mall in northwest Indiana Thursday morning.
At about 11:20 a.m., the Hobart Police Department received multiple reports of gunshots fired near the food court in the upper level of Southlake Mall.
Officers arrived and began searching for what was reported to be an active shooter, police said.
The mall was immediately put on lock down, and several other agencies responded to assist. Customers and mall employees were escorted out of the building.
During an investigation, police determined there was no active shooter, however, approximately five shots were fired. The shots caused damage to glass and other building features in the mall, but no person was believed to be struck by gunfire.
The mall will remain closed the remainder of the day, police said. It will reopen Friday, Dec. 31.
The incident is currently under investigation by Hobart police.

There is no active threat to the public at this time and the mall is being evacuated "out of an abundance of caution," according to Hobart police.
